Web Archives Confirm Barack Obama Was Member Of Socialist 'New Party' In 1996

UPDATE: WE WILL POST AT LEAST ONE MORE SOURCE COMING TOMORROW! Subscribe to feeds or bookmark page.

In June sources released information that during his campaign for the State Senate in Illinois, Barack Obama was endorsed by an organization known as the Chicago "New Party". The 'New Party' was a political party established by the Democratic Socialists of America (the DSA) to push forth the socialist principles of the DSA by focusing on winnable elections at a local level and spreading the Socialist movement upwards. The admittedly Socialist Organization experienced a moderate rise in numbers between 1995 and 1999. By 1999, however, the Socialist 'New Party' was essentially defunct after losing a supreme court challenge that ruled the organizations "fusion" reform platform as unconstitutional.

After allegations surfaced in early summer over the 'New Party's' endorsement of Obama, the Obama campaign along with the remnants of the New Party and Democratic Socialists of America claimed that Obama was never a member of either organization. The DSA and 'New Party' then systematically attempted to cover up any ties between Obama and the Socialist Organizations. However, it now appears that Barack Obama was indeed a certified and acknowledged member of the DSA's New Party.

On Tuesday, I discovered a web page that had been scrubbed from the New Party's website. The web page which was published in October 1996, was an internet newsletter update on that years congressional races. Although the web page was deleted from the New Party's website, the non-profit Internet Archive Organization had archived the page.

From the October 1996 Update of the DSA 'New Party':
"New Party members are busy knocking on doors, hammering down lawn signs, and phoning voters to support NP candidates this fall. Here are some of our key races...

Illinois: Three NP-members won Democratic primaries last Spring and face off against Republican opponents on election day: Danny Davis (U.S. House), Barack Obama (State Senate) and Patricia Martin (Cook County Judiciary)."

Link To The New Party Update

Beyond the archived web page from the Socialist New Party is the recognition by the "Progressive Populist" magazine in November 1996 that Obama was indeed an acknowledged member of the Socialist Party.

"New Party members and supported candidates won 16 of 23 races, including an at-large race for the Little Rock, Ark., City Council, a seat on the county board for Little Rock and the school board for Prince George's County, Md. Chicago is sending the first New Party member to Congress, as Danny Davis, who ran as a Democrat, won an overwhelming 85% victory. New Party member Barack Obama was uncontested for a State Senate seat from Chicago. "

Link To The November 1996 Progressive Populist Article

The Democratic Socialist Party of America published in their July/August Edition of New Ground 47 Newsletter.

"The Chicago New Party is increasely becoming a viable political organization that can make a different in Chicago politics. It is crucial for a political organization to have a solid infrastructure and visible results in its political program. The New Party has continued to solidify this base...

the NP's '96 Political Program has been enormously successful with 3 of 4 endorsed candidates winning electoral primaries. All four candidates attended the NP membership meeting on April 11th to express their gratitude. Danny Davis, winner in the 7th Congressional District, invited NPers to join his Campaign Steering Committee. Patricia Martin, who won the race for Judge in 7th Subcircuit Court, explained that due to the NP she was able to network and get experienced advice from progressives like Davis. Barack Obama, victor in the 13th State Senate District, encouraged NPers to join in his task forces on Voter Education and Voter Registration."

Link To DSA Article

Obama's membership within the 'New Party' is disturbing as even Green Party members attacked the DSA and New Party as nothing more than a fringe group. The New Party had hoped to implement Socialist Rule in the United States and was established to counteract the influence of a Democratic Party that they viewed as too moderate and too centered. Now it seems that nearly 10 years after the socialist party fell apart, their strategy of upward growth has reached the White House. Obama's ties to the DSA's New Party is beyond just an association it is outright membership, as clearly defined by the parties August 1996 newsletter, in an outright Socialist organization.

  1. I urge everyone to send this story in to Drudge, Politico and any other news source you're familiar with. This story could be the beginning of the end for Obama's campaign.

  2. I suppose Sen. Joe McCarthy is alive and well. Really, are we going to start witch-hunting again in this country? Even if true, this bit of information has zero bearing on Senator Obama's current political viewpoints, which focus on consensus building and understanding the views of others. Stick to the issues this country faces. There's more than enough mud that could be dug up about Sen. McCain which would "effectively end his campaign."

  3. This means only one of two things: (1) Obama was and is a socialist; or (2) Obama has no political conviction whatsoever and merely says what he thinks will get him elected. Either you have principles or you don't, but seldom do they change. Besides, any rational examination of his policies and statements reveals #1 is true.

  4. I commend you for your research.

This is proof of Obamas time line on his affiliations with those who would take down our Free Republic.

  5. The comment by anonymous is typical liberal smokescreen 'nothing to see here ... move along.' instead of addressing the issue.
Dave H is correct ... either obama is/was a socialist or he will say anything to get into office. either way, he is BAD for America. There is just way too much evidence that obama is part of the far-left/socialists that intend to tear this country apart bit by bit.
We the people must stop this man from tearing our country apart.

  8. Yes Anon,

People enjoy socialism, thats why they depend upon our economic and military strength. Oh by the way, it didn't work out so well for Germany 70 years ago, or for that matter Venezuala today.

  9. "What's so bad about socialism?" Where do I start? Ok look at Post Soviet Collapse Eastern Europe. Loot at the Former East Germany's Economy. Loot and North Korea. Socialism turns people into SLAVES. You do what the state says, work for the states wages and go to the state schools and follow the state's party line or YOU DON'T EAT. Hello! Socialism DOES NOT WORK, just look at any socialist country then compare it to the US, there IS no comparison, even the poorest people here have a TV, running water and a frikken air conditioner. The average person in a Socialist state just barely has enough to eat and no reason at all to try and make his/her life better. Why? Because the state isn't interested in what you as an individual can do. It’s interested in you ONLY as a battery feeding the continued power of the State and Government. Man, some people are just stuck on Stupid. See, this is what we get for allowing Liberals to run our schools and colleges, they are NOT teaching HISTORY or anything else that does not fit their agenda. Its sick.

  10. The problem is not so much that Barack Obama is/was a socialist, it's the cover-up.

  11. "What's the problem with Obama's membership in a radical socialist party?" ask his defenders. Why, none, if you happen to be a radical socialist.

If you're among the vast majority of Americans who aren't, however, his membership in this group and his willingness to lie repeatedly to hide it constitutes a glaring red flag.

  19. OK, the first link takes me to an innocuous web page where I can try to search for "obama new party". I get no helpful hits. The rest of the article is extremely interesting. Too many people in this country are ready for socialism. If Obama wins this election and gets more than 50% of the vote, we are doomed as a society. That means over half of us are stupid enough to vote for a socialist megalomaniac who, with a majority democRAT congress, will rule this country forever. Wake up, Americans. This is a bad, bad, bad man, controlled by other bad, bad, bad "men", like Bill Ayers. How stupid do you have to be to vote for this charlatan?

  30. "Education is the motor force for revolution"
    Bill Ayers
    Venezuela 2006
Barack Hussein Obama is the most extreme candidate for president in our history. His fundamental beliefs are hidden from view, as are his associations and alliances with multiple others, who openly state that this country must be remade by socialism (Communism). Barry Hussein collaborated on a group which spent $147,000,000 to "reform Chicago schools". The reforms? It's unknown, because the records of the Annenburg Challenge are "unavailable"- in the sense of providing information about their history. Hopwever, an IBD Editoral 10/07/2008, might help you understand why-

    IBD Editoral 10-07-2008
An idea of what Ayers has in mind for America's schools was provided in his own words not 40 years ago when Obama was eight years old, but less than two years ago in November 2006 at the World Education Forum in Caracas hosted by dictator Hugo Chavez.

With Chavez at his side, Ayers voiced his support for "the political educational reforms under way here in Venezuela under the leadership of President Chavez. We share the belief that education is the motor-force of revolution. . . . I look forward to seeing how . . . all of you continue to overcome the failures of capitalist education as you seek to create something truly new and deeply humane."

Ayers told the great humanitarian Chavez: "Teaching invites transformations, it urges revolutions large and small. La educacion es revolucion." It is that form of socialist revolution that Ayers, and Obama, have worked to bring to America.
    Obama's Real Problem With Ayers
    IBD Editoral 10-07-2008

To find out now that he was a member of a purely socialist organization in the 90's which helped him get elected to the IL senate fits exactly. The Annenburg Challenge has another mystery-Why would an organization award Barry Hussein the powerful position of deciding who got money from the Anneburg foundation-He was a 33 year old lawyer-That's it-Nothing to qualify him for such a position. But, that's how it works in Chicago-Gotta pay as you go. The entire press and all his followers have been outright duped completely. For the NYT to come out and say that "there is no reason to suspect BO had a relationship with Bill Ayers" is absurd and at once refutes any logic. Bill Ayers got the grant-BO wrote the checks. C'mon.

  33. I'd like more information on exactly how this was 'found' since I seemingly cant get to it coming through archive.orgs front page and only from 'your' link.

So what exactly does this 'prove' except that his name appears on the given web page.

Could the New Party have been trying to associate themselves with Mr. Obama? I don't know.

It's hardly a smoking gun, and will probably only serve as' proof' to the easily swayed.

    ReplyDelete
  34. "Keyword searching is not currently supported" by the Wayback Machine. So if you start at their index page you have to enter the URL for the New Party web site, and then look for the content. Or just click on the provided links. If you don't trust them, well try traceroute!

    ReplyDelete
  35. This fills in the blanks between two links that have been in play for a while. The first is the Ayers/Obama connection. In 1996, socialist terrorist Ayers, his weatherwoman-socialist wife, and (we now know) the socialist front New Party pushed Obama for state senate. That same year, Obama was selected by Ayers and his CAC collaborative to run the CAC grant recipient. That is either a big coincidence or evidence that Obama and Ayers are more than casual acquaintances.

The second is Obama's strong affinity with far-left socialist political policies. Without that strong affinity, he never would have accepted the endorsement of the New Party, nor would he have invited its members to take his training courses funded by (we now know) ACORN.

This is not a pretty picture for a future President of the US. While it will appeal to the ANSWER nutjobs (some of whom anonymously post here), it will turn off those OH, PA, TN, CO, VA, FL voters who will simply not vote for a socialist.

The Obama troops know this, and will stop at nothing to keep this information from wide distribution.

They well know how toxic this is even if some of the astroturfing posters here would have you believe they don't.

  56. OK "ironyisoverrated", how about we discuss the issue of how Obama is going to grow the economy and still implement his "socialist" public welfare policies? You go to any city, state, or municipality and see how they grow their economy and attract business by cutting or in some cases eliminating corporate tax rates and then tell me how Obama is going to grow the national economy implementing policies that are in direct contrast to those local philosophies. He's made no bones about his intent to implement punitive tax policies on businesses and other individuals with a demonstrated capacity to create wealth, and correspondingly (as it is fundamentally obvious to anyone who isn't hypnotized by hope), a demonstrated capacity to create jobs and therefore national wealth. America already has the second highest corporate tax rate in the world. You think it's just a coincidence that business keep relocating overseas? Obama, and you apparently, fail to understand that corporations, those entities that employ us and create our national wealth, are nationless and borderless and will move to those nations where they can make a profit. Or perhaps Obama does understand that dynamic and figures that the more business he can run off the easier it will be for him to centralize the American economy. Which, if you're paying attention, is socialism. See how that comes full circle? Wake up you fu*ktard cock monkey. Obama wants to eat your children!

I think responsible Americans will have educated themselves by election time and elect Mr. McCain. Senator McCain has a voting record we can research to know more about him.

To me, Mr. Obama is still an unknown and, as president with the support of a democratic congress, I fear we will become a socialist state. Too, I worry about the political bent of any supreme court justice he is likely to appoint. Finally, I think President Obama and his acquaintances will try to destroy our country from within.

  62. The problem here is that the young voters in the obama camp have no clue what this means. They think, oh socialism is good because the people get the help they need. I am afraid the only answer would be to let them experience it. But maybe they will understand that a government so over bloated is unable to handle socialism. Socialism means government will have their hands in everything you do, where you work, how much pay you are allowed to keep (not much), what you eat, where you shop. What you really want is less government in your life. ESPECIALLY one that is as ineffective as this one.

    ReplyDelete
  73. anon,
Well you say why is it OK for McCain to run for president since he was born on a military base? It OK and one is recognized a naturalize citizen if one is born on a military base and both parents are US citizens. The First Congress, on March 26, 1790, approved an act that declared, "The children of citizens of the United States that may be born beyond sea, or outside the limits of the United States, shall be considered as natural-born citizens of the United States." The key word is citizens, both parents must be citizens, not just one. McCain is a natural born citizen because both his parents were US citizens when he was born at a military facility outside the United States.

    Satisfied?

  76. Chad,
You are definately a follower. You are throwing cliches "real issues" and all of that mumbo jumbo. Have you heard either candidate speak about real issues in depth and with detail?
They don't know what the details of their plans are because of the financial problems and other things. They are both being GENERAl so they don't lose party support or accidentally go out on a limb and lose public support.

Give us proof buddy. Give us proof why Obama is NOT a DANGER to the U.S.

McCain fought for this country, do you think he will let it go to the dogs?
Know your facts man, and realize that integrity and responsibility as well as character define a good leader. Do we want someone who based on the Muslim faith CAN lie and CAN cheat as it is JUSTIFIED in the Quran?
Read the Quran, you will realize that a muslim can lie to someone else and say that they are christian as long as inside their hearts they know that they are muslim, so that they can do what they need to do.
Is obama supporting his family for the fun of it, for family sake?
WE have heard about many family fueds, disagreements becoming better than other family members which included AVOIDING them, and CALLING out their lies!
If only he were a true christian...

  77. well matt, with the economics in such turmoil, do you think that burdening an already overburdened government is going to help. They obviously cannot be trusted to deal with our money, but you want to entrust them with our health care?

    I think not.

  78. Matt,
I am only hoping that Obama is what he says he is.
I am only hoping that McCain is the maverick that he says he is.
To tell you the honest truth I can't commit to liking either of them, and I only hope that as the people blindly followed Bush, that they don't blindly follow Obama because of his great way of speaking or because of his youth or politeness.
    Do you understand my concerns?
As everyone made a double mistake with Bush, I was Against him, the war, the bills and ideas. Bush is a joke.
It is just that...Obama and McCain both say they are something and I just hope that whichever one wins is the one telling the truth.
Not exciting or evil...just like Bush isn't funny or charming.
    Bush is stupid and inconsiderate.
I am crossing my fingers that Obama isn't too friendly with our enemies or too excited about any more advances at the North American Trade Union...
That is all, from a registered democrat...I just want someone who isn't part of any corruption.

  80. Yup I was a democrat too. I voted for clinton, and he did nothing he said he would do AND he got us into 911 by ignoring bin laden when he could have captured him.

I did not vote for bush, in fact I did not vote for anyone.

Now, we have clintonII. I am not going through that again.

We have a Mavrick team with Regan principals that CAN fix this government. There is no question here. An unexperienced president with too many terrorist ties both domestic and abroad, or the strong team leaders we have with McCain/Palin.

The choice is clear. Do you want to heal our country or tear it apart.?

  81. Reagan came to the white house with some simple ideas but they weren't simple-minded ideas. These were ideas to cut tax rates. At that time in the United States we had a 70 percent top tax rate. That was really discouraging economic growth. The second big problem that we had in the economy was raging inflation. You know, when Reagan entered office the inflation rate was 14 percent. I think that more than anything probably cost Jimmy Carter the election. And the third thing was Reagan promised to rebuild the military to fight the evil empire and to try to bring the Cold War to an end victoriously.

I think what made Ronald Reagan such a great president, in my opinion, was that he came in with these three objectives and he was able to accomplish them all in eight years. Eight years after President Reagan had been elected the Berlin Wall had just about come down, and I think it was pushed down by Reaganomics and Reagan's military policies. The inflation rate had come down very dramatically and taxes had.

And so Reagan was able to ask Americans twice, are you better off today than you were four years ago? And both times Americans resoundingly said, yes, we're a lot better off.

Your eyes and ears are closed to other sources of information about Obama...the media is being payed to be slanted towards him CNN FOX...all of them.
I am weak at the knees.....because you think that I am "afraid of change", and that you think that I am a loony.
Loony kind of sounds like loopy, and similar to a record that skips all I hear out of obama and obama supporters is "Change" but I don't see the supporting details of how that is to happen.
By narrowing your candidate to what is only important to you is a very closed minded thing to do. You miss the big picture my friend.

I did not agree to the war, but we are there, I did not approve of Bush but we are there.
Now that there is a real threat with children being brainwashed into believing that death brings them a certificate to heaven on children networks...is proof that they are the future terrorists of the world.

  99. These items show that Obama was apparently a member of the New Party, but they don't prove that the New Party was a socialist party. They also don't show that Obama was a member of the Democratic Socialists of America. It also doesn't prove that the DSA established the New Party.

Looking at the "New Ground 47" newsletter, there were two separate entries about the New Party. The one quoted above mentions that the Chicago New Party had been around since at least January 1995. But a separate entry ("Other DSA News") mentions that the Chicago DSA voted in June 1996 to explore affiliation with the New Party.

If the DSA had founded the New Party they wouldn't have needed to vote on whether to "explore" affiliation with them.

Why do so many people confuse socialist with communist and marxist; that's like confusing freckles with genital warts (cancerous genital warts).

Not at all. You forgot, Cuba, Venezuela, Zimbabwe, and many others. Someone who loves socialist values, should love to move to any of these nations where they policies they want to push are already in practice.

It needs to be understood, that socialism promises wonderful utopian things, but when it's put into practice in reality, it never delivers. It is the "As Seen On TV" of governmental forms.

Even if true, this bit of information has zero bearing on Senator Obama's current political viewpoints, which focus on consensus building and understanding the views of others. Stick to the issues this country faces. There's more than enough mud that could be dug up about Sen. McCain which would "effectively end his campaign."

  120. There is something not being sufficiently focused on with regard to Obama’s connection with Ayers. That is this: think of the loss of credibility our nation will have in a war on terror, when its chief executive-- nay, its Commander in Chief-- has ties to, indeed launched his political career in the home of, a confessed and unrepentant domestic terrorist. The American people need to reflect soberly on the moral effect such an association will have on the legitimacy of our war against terrorism. If people don’t think that every terrorist state and organization in the world won’t make hay with that, they are delusional. It doesn’t even matter if Obama agrees with or condemns Ayers’ actions. The association is sufficient for the terrorists to exploit. Period. No one seems to be addressing the “why does it matter” aspect (beyond simply bad judgment). I’ve been doing my best to keep up with most of the articles on this subject through RCP, but I don’t think anyone has really driven this home. I really think this is the angle that needs to become a drum beat, and just hammered home until election day. It’s not guilt by association, it’s irreparable damage to our nation’s moral credibility in time of war against terrorist states and organizations.

  124. I have been following Obama and his ties to the New Party for months. They have scrubbed the archives pages just since this past Saturday. I emailed myself the information straight from the new Party pages. Please ready below at the bottom about their candidate Obama. This was written in 1997!

http://www.populist.com/11.96.Edit.html (one more just for shits and grins...there's Obama in the 13th paragraph...
or maybe it's just a conspiracy to make it look like he was in it)

    You can read this article:

Here's the NEW PARTY link page that has now been scrubbed, but not before I captured it and saved it in my archives. They can kiss my ass. In Chicago, it is politics as usual and I've followed the money.

    October 1996 Update:
Running to Win : The Key Races

New Party members are busy knocking on doors, hammering down lawn signs, and phoning voters to support NP candidates this fall. H ere are some of our key races:
Arkansas: The Little Rock New Party has a full slate of candidates up for election in November. LRNP steering committee member Michael Booker is running unopposed for re-election to the Arkansas State House. Two NP members - Paul Kelly and Genevieve Stewart - are running for at-large (city-wide) city council positions. And in a head-to-head battle between the New Party and the conservative right, NP member Jayne Cia faces the Arkansas state chair of Empower America (Jack Kemp and Bill Bennett's organization) for a Justice of the Peace (county board) position.
Illinois: Three NP-members won Democratic primaries last Spring and face off against Republican opponents on election day: Danny Davis (U.S. House), Barack Obama (State Senate) and Patricia Martin (Cook County Judiciary).
Maryland: Two New Party members are up for school board seats this fall: Doyle Niemann in Prince George's County and Dan Parr in Montgomery County.
Minnesota: Despite the successful effort by conservative Democratic Party forces to deny Progressive Minnesota the opportunity to use fusion this fall, the state legislative candidates that sought our nomination still see themselves as Progressive Minnesota candidates, and we're still backing them in the general election. PM/NP endorsed candidates include Ellen Anderson, Karen Clark, Andy Dawkins, Linda Higgins, and Sandy Pappas. Progre ssive Minnesota has also endorsed Green Party State Assembly candidate Cam Gordon.
New York: The New Party of Long Island is backing three candidates for office this Fall: State Assembly candidate Tom DiNapoli and Congressional candidates Carolyn McCarthy and Nora Bredes. NP members collected the necessary signatures to nominate progressive Democratic Assemblyman Tom DiNapoli on the New Party line, making this the first Democratic Party/New Party fusion effort. The chapter is supporting a major voter registration drive in African-American and Hispanic communities in McCarthy's district.
Washington, DC: DC New Democracy/NP is backing ten candidates for Advisory Neighborhood Commissions (Almedith Bass-Williams, John Jordan, Laine McRaney, Henry Fernandez, Todd Mosley, Daniel Rosenberg, Gerry Lorentz, Will Hill, Dennis Dolinger, Violet Hewlett), neighborhood-based councils that represent community concerns to the mayor and city council. In addition, DCND is recruiting candidates to run write-in campaigns in some of the 80-odd ANC races with no candidate.
Wisconsin: In addition to the four Progressive Milwaukee-backed candidates running for state office (Spencer Coggs, Dale Dulberger, Gwendolynne Moore, Johnnie Morris-Tatum, see Sept Update), two New Party members in Fox Valley are running for the state assembly. Progressive Fox Valley founder and chair Tony Palmeri is in a surprisingly close race against an four-term incumbent conservative Rep ublican in Oshkosh. New Party and AFSCME (American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees) member Corky Van Handel is also running for the state assembly in a nearby district. Both are running as Democrats.
    Membership Growth
September was the New Party's all-time high month for membership recruitment - more than 1000 new members joined! Welcome aboard.
    As always, onward and upward...

  125. All of these archives are now missing. Thank God I have them. At least I will have record and proof the guy was a member. He is a Socialist...there are no two ways about it.

  126. Senator Obama clearly tipped his cards when his masked slipped in conversation with Joe the Plumber. When he stated the the by-line of socialism "spread the wealth around". He told Joe "I don't want to punish your success, I just want the people coming up behind you to be able to get a leg up". The problem is, Joe is the one trying to get a leg up! He hasn't bought the business yet! But Obama's policies are making him uncertain that he can indeed achieve the American dream while creating more jobs for other Americans. SOCIALISM IS THE DEATH OF THE AMERICAN DREAM!
