This Weekend sit down and enjoy a movie or two with your entire family. My choice for family viewing this week is a recent hit franchise Disney's The National Treasure.
The National Treasure and The National Treasure II, not only offer excitement that the entire family can enjoy, but also offers an opportunity to spark the imagination and interest in our History within our children. Both movies offer of well formed and seamless mixture of Historical fact, myth and fantasy that are bound to raise questions from your children. Although the National Treasure series has been criticized for it's use of conspiracy theories and historical myth, I contend that the benefits of historical awareness far outweigh the twisting of historical fact. After watching the movies, especially the first one, my 7 year old was filled with questions as surrounding the historical monuments, documents and people referenced in the movie.
As you know, there is a serious lack of history-based education within our schools and I welcome any movie that can help raise interest in the proud heritage of our nation.
In addition to the National Treasure Movies be prepared for the upcoming release of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
If your family enjoys movies and you enjoy movie-theater popcorn then I have to recommend that everyone purchase a product my family has fallen in love with. Last Christmas, I finally broke down and purchased a Nostalgia Hot Oil Popcorn Popper for our media room. My family absolutely loves fresh popcorn but I have never really enjoyed microwave brands. Now hot-oil poppers are not all fun and games, after all it is a hot-oil popper. The product below, which is the one that I own, is their smallest and most economical popper, but they do have larger poppers available. The product will not pop every kernel and the steam from the popping process can leave an oily film in the collection chamber, as a result, you have to take two minutes to clean out the kernels when your done. But the benefits far outweigh the clean-up. Most grocery stores or your local GFS carry the popcorn oil, which also serves as the same topping used in theaters, and popcorn salt. Since we purchased the product we enjoy true movie-theatre style popcorn 2 or 3 nights a week. Trust me, my wife, who used to love microwave popcorn, can't stand it any longer. As for myself, the only time I would ever eat popcorn was at the theater and now I enjoy it 2 or 3 nights a week. If you enjoy movies, and don't mind the inconvenience of another appliance to clean up, then you have to get your family a hot-oil popper.
The popper is obviously a little expensive, but in eight months we've spent far less on the oil, seasoning and popcorn than what we have by purchasing boxes of microwave brands. The unit will eventually pay for itself. The only regret that our family has is that we didn't purchase one of the larger models.
