I was surprised (not really) by the lack of mainstream media reporting last night over the release of the Obama campaign's fundraising figures for May. There were no big press conferences, no Media fawning, Keith Olbermann was not crying tears tears of joy, for the most part there was sil. Why??
Barack Obama's campaign yesterday released their fundraising numbers to the FEC, reporting that the Obama campaign raised $21.9 Million in the month of May. Besting the McCain campaign's $21.5 million. Ironically, McCain released his numbers shortly after the end of may, which leaves me wondering if perhaps the Obama campaign has resorted to "fuzzy math" to avoid the embarrasement of being outraised by McCain. May represented Obama's worst fundraising month of the year, especially considering that he was still entrenched in a primary battle with Hillary Clinton. The McCain fundraising trend may have actually began in April, The Center For Responsive Politics points out that McCain outraised Obama on 15 days in April among voters giving more than $200.
Hidden away in Obama's fundraising statistics are a large number of his donors who have already maxed out their contributions for both the General Election and Primary as the Obama campaign has not discouraged them from making both contributions. This may present Barry with a problem as less than 10% of his donor have funded more than 60% of his campaign. Historically campaign contributions tend to level out during the summer prior to the party conventions, which may be the primary reason that Obama has abandoned his pledge for public financing.
Compounding Obama's problem is the fact that when combined with DNC and RNC contributions the Republicans outraised the Democrats by nearly $10 million in May. The lack of DNC funding has already forced the Democratic Nationional Convention to scale back its festivities.
The Obama campaign must tap into Hillary Clinton's supporters if they wish to restore the "messianic" levels of contributions that they experienced during the primaries. But you can be certain that a steady stream of criticism that the Republican party has been waiting to launch, coupled by some of Hillary's most ardent supporters who are openly attacking Obama, will be working to prevent that conversion. Groups such as PumaPac and Just Say No Deal (Democrats Against Obama), continue to gain support and media attention as they launch a massive "grass roots" effort to stop an Obama Presidency.
This upcoming week we will be focusing on following the Obama money trail including the some surprising revelations on who is funding his campaign and how contributions are being collected.

I am your typical conservative Republican, w/ problems w/ McCain, but this week I sucked in my gut and sent him a generous contribution, because I am so scared of Obama presidency, and what it would do to the country I love.
ReplyDeleteObama will get endless positive free media coverage. We can't let him also outspend McCain on paid advertising. I urge all my fellow Republicans: Pay Up. Stop Obama now. Our country's future is at stake.

ReplyDeleteI agree.
I too am a conservative Republican, that thinks the Party needs some serious retooling, and reintroduction of some real discipline & principle.
Regardless, as you say, it's time to " suck in the gut " and support conservatism's best shot. I will be donating shortly.
See, I am a stanch Hillary supporter PUMA dem. and I find it amazing that the two posters previous STILL have problems with McCain. IMO they should be thanking their lucky stars and enthusiastically rallying around their candidate because it is a miracle that at this time there is a republican candidate that half of the dems and indys can support.
ReplyDeleteThe reason why McCain is not ahead in the polls is the republicans have still not realized their amazing good luck. Maybe he is not what you would like as a hard core republican, but it is lucky that you have him. Should you rally around him and not force him to take hard-line positions to gain your support, and thus make him look like a flip-flopper, we will see him defeat Obambi.
Defeating Obambi should be the number one goal of any American who wants to preserve our nation. Obambi is a very scary prospect and republicans, indys, and hill dems, should band together and take back our country from this man. His form of politics, his inexperience, his friends, his being party to corruption, should bring us all together.
I am a liberal democrat and Clinton supporter. This will be the first time that I will not be voting for the democratic candidate.
ReplyDeleteI have watched the primary process in absolute disbelief.
McCain isn't as conservative as the "conservatives' would like him to be. Hillary isn't as liberal I would like her to be either. However, I thought she would make the best president.
Obama is a con with no interest other than himself and political ambitions.
What part of your conservative beleifs are supported by John McCain? Small Government? Not. Balabced Budget? Not. Family values? Not.
ReplyDeleteYou should be supporting Bob Barr who is the only true conservative in this race. And if Hillary Clinton isn't liberal enough for your liking what makes you think your interests are served by voting for McCain?
I have yet to hear one person put forth a single positive reason for voting for John McCain.
He was second best in 2000 and he's 2nd best now.
Nobody can convince me to vote for McCain but I will vote against teh other candidate - T. Sowell
ReplyDeleteI will proudly vote for John McCain, I do not want Obama in as my president for 4 years and the ruin of my freedom. To vote for one of the other parties , that will not win, is giving Obama the election. Shame on you other Republicans. I have been voting since IKEs first term, and like McCain I have at times crossed party lines, but not this time.
