Remember after Super Tuesday when media outlets, DNC leaders, the Obama campaign, Obama supporters, and blogs such as The Huffington Post & DailyKos were shouting at the top of their lungs that Super Delegates should carry out the will of the people. Throughout the blogosphere there were lists of super delegates being circulating; all urging Obama supporters to contact them and let them know they were watching. What Happened??
We no longer hear those raised voices; perhaps because they are singing a different tune. Now we hear those voices pressuring undecided Supers to back Obama to avoid further damage to the “PARTY”. CNN and ObaMSNBC certainly don’t ask the question as to whether these Supers are following the will of the voter.
Over the past month, I’ve spent extensive time exploring the ridiculous nature of the Democratic Primary process. In The New American Disenfranchisement I focused little on the Super Delegate Aspect of the race. I personally believe that most rational people realize the ridiculousness of less than 800 brokers having the ability to determine a race in which 30 Million votes have been cast.
This nominating process should be a wake up call to Democrats to urge their party leaders to change their primary system; a system designed to allow the party, not the voters to determine the nomination. Beyond the 3 million voters that have been disenfranchised in Florida & Michigan, demand change in states such as Texas where 1/3 of the delegates were awarded in a caucus system in which only 42,000 people participated. The result was that Obama received more delegates from Texas than Clinton, essentially disenfranchising the 2.9 Million voters who cast ballots in the primary. Demand change in states that have huge imbalances in how they award delegates. For Instance:
Pennsylvania: Congressional District 2 = 9 delegates vs. CD 9 = 3 delegates
Ohio: CD 11 = 8 Delegates vs. CD 6 = 5 Delegates
Illinois: CD 1 = 8 Delegates vs. CD 18 = 4 Delegates
Missouri: CD1 = 7 Delegates vs. CD 8 = 4 Delegates
And the list goes on…
But now onto the new issue…
Who are the Super delegates? Elected Congressmen & Congresswomen, Governors, State Party Officials, Former High Ranking Party Officials, and State-level congressional leaders.
Despite all of the early talk about these leaders voting with the people, it is surprising how many of them have not. For Instance Below is the list of House Members, Senators, and Governors not voting along the lines of their constituents, along with any recorded contributions from Clinton or Obama. (Isn’t their obligation first and foremost to their constituents?)

It’s important to note the donations above include disclosed donations by either Clinton or Obama. If you’re a Democrat I would be outraged by the individuals in the above lists, especially Clinton Supporters. Just the floppers above represent a net of 20 Supers for Clinton OR a 40 delegate swing. Furthermore, have Supers become so beholden to the DNC that they no longer remember that their loyalty is to their constituent first; or is it just about money. If I were on the Republican Congressional Campaign Committee I would start dumping huge amounts of money into the districts above and start running the commercials.
But the Super delegate issue goes well beyond just the Federally Elected Officials. Many of the DNC member super delegates are high ranking elected State Office holders. We are currently working on that list (visiting our advertisers would certainly provide us more time to compile the list). Additionally, there is also a large number of Supers that are high ranking state Democratic Officials like Arizona’s Yuma County chair Charlene Fernandez whose county vote over 60% for Clinton; and California’s State Vice-Chairperson Alexandra Gallardo-Rooker.
There’s no doubt that the Obama money machine is in full force. We know for a fact that through the end of February, Obama had contributed more than $710,000 to the campaigns of Federally Elected Supers, while the Clinton campaign contributed $236,000. But this information is scarce as PAC’s tied to the Obama campaign have not updated their disclosures to the FEC since March. Just think about how much money has flowed from Obama’s coffers, and the coffer’s of his primary supporters and 527’s like Move On, since March.
Obama’s campaign has suffered defeat after defeat since the end of February, he has consistently lost support among the very groups that make up the backbone of the electorate, yet Supers continue to flock to him.
I’ll leave you today with just a couple thoughts:
The RNC issued a press release yesterday pointing out Obama’s Hypocrisy on Lobbyists, check it out: http://news.yahoo.com/s/usnw/20080521/pl_usnw/rnc__obama_s_lobbyist_hypocrisy
For the large number of environmental voters of Oregon who propelled the “Messiah” to his win in your state: consider the fact that since launching his federal –level political career Exelon Corp. (an nuclear energy subsidiary of ComEd) has been a top contributor to Barrack Obama, including over $229,000 in this campaign.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the founder and ex-leader of a huge environmentalist group renounce his previous views on nuclear energy, and instead become firmly of the opinion that it is the cleanest, safest source of energy out there? Google it, I don't remember what group it was.
Superdelegates are designed to counter the masses, especially when they are largely misinformed. Clinton trumpets having the blue-collar, not educated, racist votes of the south (anyone see that old woman in West Virginia having a heart attack over his middle name? Pathetic) When that many people think that Obama is actually a Muslim, the superdelegates are able to swoop in and correct for their mistake. Does anybody remember the early whisperings of Hillary being a lesbian? The superdelegates would have done the same thing for her if that had actually gone farther than it should have, baseless slander that it was.
Please don't talk about rules when it has been widely reported that the Clinton campaign has sent phone messages to DELEGATES reminding them that even though they were beholden to their precinct's choice, they didn't HAVE to vote the same way. She deliberately tried to sway delegates, not superdelegates, that were supposed to be voting for Obama based on their precinct's choice. The only thing that made me smile about that whole sordid affair was one delegates musings on the matter: He had been chosen to vote Hillary, but was unaware he could switch. He got the message from her campaign, and happily voted for Obama with a clear conscience. Sometimes the kind of tactics that the Clinton campaign employs end up biting her in the ass. Remember her getting booed for the "change you can Xerox" comment in Texas? People are tired of these kinds of politics, and rightly so.
These are merely refutations to your post, and nothing more. I would sincerely hope that you will let this stay up, so that others can refute my own thoughts. Censoring dissenting opinions isn't becoming of any democrat, and would show weakness in the belief of your own candidate.
Anon:
It's the hypocrisy.
The flip flop, if you will.
After super Tuesday the Obama team were shouting the super delegates must reflect the will of the people in their district/state.
Now the super delegates must vote for Obama for the good of the party.
Basically, whatever works for Obama at the time.
Notice how the Obamabots always always turn to criticizing Clinton vs. retorting the actual point of the article. I also find it funny that anon above immediately feels the need to bring up racism, obama's middle name, and the uneducated who vote for Clinton. Ridiculous, go try to brain wash someone at the kos.
hey Obaama supporters...preferring to do blue collar work and not going to college, does not mean that these voters have a lower IQ than yours!!! Why don't you check out the site below, and then tell us WHY it is you're so adamant about your guy!!!

The DNC needs a good overhaul, unfortunately those in power will be staying in power since they backed the new head of the party.
They don't really care about the will of anyone.
Here is what I get out of Donna Brazill's comment that "we don't need the base. We have all these new voters who are so energized and inspired."
1.
they really don't care about the core, the base who have been there forever. they never did. Their mouthing the concerns of the core of the party was basically all lip service to get them elected. The values of lifting up the "least of these" to have a chance is not and was not really on their agenda. Its about power. God am I naive or what... and I'm pushing 60.
Now that they have their new, young, energized, educated, affluent voters them ignorant unedjakatd old typical white lady racists can be dispensed with.
I saw it coming months ago with the rhetoric of leaving the fights of the past behind coupled with some ageist/classist talking points and some disparagement of those who actually did the work in the 60's/70's that allowed these candidates to be able to run today. "Our time has come. It's our turn." Boomer's bad, young people good.
"Don't worry, the base will come around."(and again, if they don't well, we don't really need them now anyway.)
HuffPo is full of those attitudes which I first noticed Obama very subtly injecting into the conversation...(which was his passive aggressive way of further undermining Bill and Hillary clinton and the Clinton Presidency. I was an O supporter at the time. Just one of the things that started me shaking my head.
Anyway, I'm getting off track (typical.)
The second thing Brazill tells me is that the DNC do not realize that a good many of those new registrants are Clinton supporters. The DNC... like the pundits keep talking about how he has energized the political landscapee, he has brought all these new voters in.
Well then who the hell is voting for her??? considering that she has actually had more votes cast for her than anyone in history.
So they are throwing Clinton supporters under the bus. Plus they don't get why Clinton Supporters are angry. They actually think its because she is losing rather than how they have treated her by their utter silence at the outrageous sexism, misogyny and accusations of racism, media bias and the incredible ugliness of O supporters toward Clinton supporters.
.... the other things that made me shake my head and get the hell out of dodge.
I won't vote for McCain but I am tempted to write Hillary in. I never thought I would do anything like that but I'm so disgusted that I want to be sure my protest is heard.
I am leaving the party too.
Sorry about blathering on.
I should really re-open my blog. I nefver had visitors so I didn't bother.
(coulda been why!)
LOL
(Did you hear? He told them to "be nice")HA!
